IMSU On-campus Female Hostel To Be Allocated To Students In January 2019 Via Biometric Cards - Dean Student Affairs IMSU

The Dean Student Affairs Prof. Martins Uchenna has disclosed that the IMSU on-campus female hostel (i.e hostel inside the institution/school) will be allocated through the use of biometric cards from January 2019.

The Dean made this disclosure last weekend in further reaction to the students protest and power cut at IMSU Backgate alliances. 

He added that the IMSU on-campus male hostel will be ready in the first quarter of 2019.

The biometric cards to be used for the Catherine Chidolue female hostel will be implemented when the school resumes academic activities.

The digital Dean also commended the Vice Chancellor Prof. (Mrs.) Adaobi Victoria Obasi whom he described as "extra ordinaire" for her support towards ensuring the hostel is opened for students intake.

IMSU Backgate: Students Protest 'Forceful' Sudden Power Cut By EEDC - EEDC Network Manager, Dean Students Affairs React

Students of Aladinma and Okwu-Uratta alliances in IMSU off-campus hostels yesterday staged a protest over the ‘forceful' sudden power cut by the EEDC led by the Network Manager.

An eye witness who doesn’t want his name in prints revealed that the EEDC Network Manager Mr. Chris Ezeoha came with naval officers to cut abruptly the power in IMSU Backgate alliances including Bishop's Court on Wednesday.

The EEDC Network Manager Mr. Chris Ezeoha speaking with our correspondent Duru Victor, in reaction to the power cut and said protest, gave the genesis of the issue.
He said, “ I have been here for almost 12 years (I was in charge of the power  in army barracks) and when I came I found the business situation not good and not acceptable. It doesn’t augur with best practices. I told them that it was going to change. 

“They came for a protest. They were 2000 students and I told them that basically their billing was something else and it must change. It was too low. You’ll find an hostel of 50 or 80 rooms getting a bill of 20 or 30,000. So, it doesn’t make sense.

“The losses we are recording in this students' areas are damn too much and after that explanation I told them that the only way we can manage the energy so that it will be mutual and beneficial to both ends – the service providers and those that use our services – is that we have to meter them. To a great extent B’Court alliance agreed and suddenly changed but Aladinma and Okwu-Uratta alliances did not agree and B’Court rejected the idea.” I kept on pleading and pacifying them to no avail. 

“I sent in some meters but they were rejected. Dues were piling for example one hostel owes about 24 to 25 million naira. More than 10 to 15 hostels are tied to that particular meter but they’re not paying. That gives the picture of what is happening. 

“You can’t have 90 rooms hostel with other hostels attached getting a bill of 50,000. The losses can’t be quantified and after several attempts to make them no that energy has to be managed and if not measured will be subject to reckless usage".

He added that EEDC seeks to ensure that every hostel is independent as far as power is concerned by having it’s own personal meter.
“We just want to make sure that that place is sanitized, reduce our losses and work more with the students and teach them energy management cost effectively as well as reduce wastage because every energy wasted is paid for but they don’t pay for it. It is not a form of warfare.

“Our business relationship with them needs to be renegotiated to meet best practices worldwide. We’re open, totally standing by waiting for them to come. We’re willing to restore supply to them as quickly as possible however it is important to note that our business relationship must be redefined to meet world best practices”.

In a related twist, the Dean Students Affairs Prof. Nwankwo Martins Uchenna frowned at the protest embarked upon by the students and maintained that he is in support of the power cut by the EEDC due to the gravity of the situation on ground. The Dean has on this note directed that a reactive meeting be held between hostels landlords and caretakers or attorneys of individual  hostels in all various alliances and the EEDC Network Manager.

The meeting will possibly come in January next year due to the season and period of the year and this invariably connotes that the affected alliances will be without power supply till an agreement is reached.

Winners Emerge in the ROFOSA Ibadan Maiden Essay and Spelling Contest (See details)

 The maiden edition of the Rochas Foundation Old Students' Association (ROFOSA)  Ibadan Chapter essay and spelling contest finished on a high.

The history making contest was initiated and hosted by the revered Office of the Director of Education under the leadership of, the emeritus president IMSU Yoruba Students Association and one-time acting president of IMSU Department of Insurance,  Comr. Oladeji Festus Mercy popularly known as Oloye.

The epoch contest which was organized for Rochas Foundation colleges in Ibadan at the College Multipurpose Hall had in attendance alumnus, stakeholders and members and namely ROFOSA State President Snr. Comr. Ajoku Pharuq pka Pheruz, ROFOSA national Director of Education Snr. Comr. Olukayode Michael, ROFOSA national Director of Welfare Snr. Comr. Oyebode Yusuf,  ROFOSA Ogboko Chapter Director Barr. Amaefule Tochukwu  amongst others.

Master Ibrahim Mafus of SS3 emerged winner of the essay contest to    claim the star prize. Other winners in the essay contest category are Master   Folorunsho Ifeoluwa of SS1 and Master Adeniran Samuel of SS3 who finished in second and third places respectively.

Miss Oyedepo Oreoluwa of JSS3 stole the show in the spelling contest category to emerge winner and claim the star prize. She is followed by Miss Sowumi Temiloluwa of JSS2 and Miss Kazeem Bisola of JSS2 in second and third positions respectively.

Winners in both the essay and spelling bee contest will be going on an excursion of the University of Ibadan Zoological Garden in addition to cash prizes and other gifts.

The highpoint of the event was the official launch of the Donate A Book Campaign by the ROFOSA national Director of Education Snr. Comr. Olukayode Michael. The campaign is aimed at making collection of books for the alma mater library.

The contest host, Ibadan ROFOSA Director of Education, Comr. Oloye thanked everyone for making it to the event. He also showered encomiums on the Chairman of the Day Mr. Onyeneke Chukwuemeka Paschal for his financial and moral support that saw to the successful organization and completion of the program as well as his pledge to sponsor the prizes of the essay winners.

He also praised the organizing committee of the Ibadan ROFOSA Week led by Mr. Adesanya Michael Adetunji for  making the program a huge success by reason of their organization. He extended his profound gratitude to ROFOSA Ibadan excos, RFC management and staff, stakeholders and press team for creating an enabling and conducive environment.

The maiden edition of ROFOSA Ibadan Essay and spelling contest which held on the 7th of December, 2018 had side attractions which including a raffle draw session that saw students win awesome prices  including wristwatches.

IMSU To Officially Resume On 7th Jan. 2019 If... - IMSU VC

Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) will officially go for the Christmas break on the 21st of December, 2018 and will resume academic activities for the 2018/2019 session on the 7th of January, 2019 all things being equal and should the ASUU indefinite strike be called off before these periods, Infoscope Media learns.

These revelations were made by the Vice Chancellor Prof. (Mrs.) Adaobi Victoria Obasi at the December edition of the monthly Solemn Assembly held at the university auditorium.

The VC also revealed that the school's on-campus female hostel is now open for IMSU female students intake. She announced that there's an ongoing plan to make a free-wifi that would be accessible to all IMSU students.

Meanwhile, the ASUU-FG collective bargaining will take a new dimension on the 17th of Dec. as a partial agreement has been reached by both parties.

IMSU Gears Up For Hult Prize Grand Finale - Over 15 Teams Set To Compete For The $1,000,000 Prize

The stage is set, the teams raring to go and the judges too as the biggest idea-rewarding contest - the Hult Prize oncampus contest, IMSU - is set to hold her grand finale on the 12th of December, 2018.

The Hult Prize Oncampus Challenge sponsored by the UN and the Hult International Business School and founded in 2009 is an annual international contest that focuses on launching disruptive social enterprises that are impact centered, profit-minded and market driven.

Over 15 teams in IMSU will compete at the IMSU finale for a chance to progress to the regionals and inch closer to the 1million dollars winner's prize money. The IMSU teams include Team LussHub, Team Dynamic, Team Ultimate, Team JOMACHI, Team BIC, Team M.E.E.T, Team MEDIC.

These IMSU teams will present their ideas before a high-power team of judges that include Nnanyelugo Aham-Anyanwu, lecturer of the dept. of Computer Science IMSU (Ph.D); Special Assistant to Imo State Government on Job Creation and Employment Remy Chukwunyere; US Certified Business Disruption Strategist/Consultant and Conference Speaker Jephter Akaehie; award winning and one of the top 10 gospel artiste in Nigeria Joseph Adesoji amongst others.

This year's edition of the Hult Prize contest is in line with the UN 2018 Global Challenge and is centered on youth unemployment of which the winning idea should be able to create 10,000 jobs in 10 years.

A Graduate Makes His Case Between The IMSU Girl And Boyfriend Incident

Yea you all heard the stories of an imsu girl who wants to quit her relationhip and end up having a fight with her bf when the said guy came to retrive his gift item he bought for the girl and she end up stabbing him, then, was later heard she drank poison and gave up.... Like seriously! Thats all??

Well I don't know this girl but I am shocked with the amount of her friends and people who know nothing spoiling her name...

Looking through this girl's wall I see she is a regular person like you and me with life goals just like us ..

So I just wonder why then would she take her own life, there always has to be the possibility of foul play or something they are hiding from us. .. but none of you even considered that just jumping straight into conclusion..

Like how can a girl like that overpower her boyfriend to fully stabbing him unconscious.. Did you think that?

And why would she have a bottle of poison Laying around in her room.... Did you think that??
How did she take a whole bottle of bitter poison without diluting it in anything
It also takes an average of one hour even taking poisons such as sniper in large quantities to kill you (Google it) ohh you dont know right?

How long does it take to die from bleeding out from a stab wond?
It takes a total of 1-3 minutes if a vital organ was hit if not it may take 10+ minutes but to be stabbed unconscious like the boy in this story I think a vital organ was hit... So how did he survive, while someone poisoned(which takes hours) died. Did you ponder about that?

And the story is saying she stabbed him while he was bleeding to death she drank a full bottle of poison ...

Either I'm not getting the story right or there is something not adding up about the time of death ..

I have no reason to fight for the dead all I ask is think before dragging a persons name through the dirt without knowing real facts.

I'll advise those close to her to carry out proper investigation with the authorities...
But in this country people hardly care what happens after the fact.

No hard feelings please and no insult, i just took time to analise and share my thoughts.... Because i have heard of coiensidental effects or fate of been in a wrong place at the wrong time, that doesnt make one a culprit.

IMSU Emerges Winner of ImechE London Contest (See official photos)

Imo State University Owerri (IMSU) has emerged winners of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers London (IMechE) contest held in Nigeria.

The international engineering contest tagged Speak Out For Engineering 2018 had its national level stage at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) on the 30th of November.

Eight Nigeria institutions were drawn for the national level stage namely Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK),University of Lagos Akoka (UNILAG), Anambra State University (ANSU), Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT), Madonna University Okija campus, University Kano, Federal University of Agriculture and Imo State University Owerri.

The keen contest saw representatives of Imo State University in Chukwudi Christian Chigozie and Chukwuemeka Emmanuel of 400 level emerging winners in Nigeria and will go on to the regionals of the contest along with University of UAE and University of Mauritius.

IMSU reps designed an indigenous water purification and treatment system in line with this year's theme which is concerned with ingenuity towards the future drinkable water crisis. The winners, IMSU reps, were awarded 300 pounds and a trip to Mauritius to represent Nigeria at the regionals.

With over 120,000 members in 140 countries, ImechE has been at the heart of mechanical engineering profession since 1847. The winners will represent Africa in London in April next year.

BREAKING NEWS: IMSU BEGINS ONLINE RESULT CHECKING AND COURSE REGISTRATION FOR NEW & OLD REGULAR STUDENTS (See details)

Students of Imo State University Owerri (IMSU) can now register their courses and check results online as the university goes digital fully.

This initiative is a follow-up to the promises and pronouncements made by the digital Dean of Students Affairs Prof. Nwankwo Martins Uchenna at the inaugural Students Assembly and begins in the 2018/2019 IMSU academic calendar.

Other provisions of this online initiative for old and new regular students include online portal account verification, ancillary/school fees payment, course registration and result checking. To accommodate these modifications and features, the school website (imsu.edu.ng) has been expanded.

This new online initiative is to be fully implemented as soon as the ASUU nationwide industrial action is called off however, students can still visit the school's website to begin and complete the procedures.

With this new initiative, students who haven't paid their ancillary/school fees and or completed the profile generation process cannot sit for exams and will not have access to the school WIFI.

ASUU Nationwide Strike To Continue As Meeting With FG Ends In Deadlock

There appears to be no end in sight as regards the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as the ASUU-FG meeting held today failed to produce any resolution.

The over three hours meeting which was held in Abuja began by 5:30pm and failed to achieve the needed result as the negotiating teams for both sides resolved to reconvene the meeting at a latter date.

The ASUU team led by its president Prof. Biodun Ogunbiyi and the FG team led by the honourable minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu sought to re-open negotiations over demands for improved university funding.

All efforts made by correspondents to talk to the Minister of Education proved abortive while the ASUU president avoided newsmen his reaction however left much to be told. He said: "The meeting will continue at a latter date. We will continue from where we stopped.
We have started the discussion, we are continuing and the discussion will continue at a latter date. You'll get to know about it".

Meanwhile House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education led by Hon. Aminu Suleiman has urged the ASUU and FG to find lasting solution to the ongoing strike and resolve their differences.

The ASUU-FG meeting today ended by 8pm.
