Confused about the No.8 and 10 positions in football, read this.

This two positions have caused major argument in football. Recently in my vicinity, it all most caused a fight. Even some top managers have taken the no.8 as the no.10. I could remember vividly when Louis Van gaal was Manchester United's manager, he used to call Rooney his no.8

After thorough research about these positions, I have found out that, in football, in the rampant 4-2-3-1 formation, the no.10 plays slightly behind the striker. The no.10 s are characterized by great dribbling skill, incisive passing skill, great turning ability. The no.10 supplies the ball to the strikers and they are majorly the team's playmaker. In a 4-4-2 formation, they are called the supporting striker.

While on the other hand, the no.8 plays behind the no.10 and slightly above the no. 4. The no.8 helps the no.4 to control proceedings in the middle of the park as seen in the image above. The no.8 is characterized by strong tackling skill and srong passing ability.
Examples of the no.10 in today's football include; David silva, Kevin d' bruyne, Juan mata etc. While examples of the no.10 include; Ander Herrera, Yaya toure, Cesc Fabregas, Ramsey, Vidal, Pogba, Kroos etc.
Though, some no.8 have the ability of playing as a no.10 and  vice versa.
