Aftermath of the Collapsed Church Building in Uyo, Akwa-ibom


Regarding the tragic event that happened on Saturday 10th, whereby Reigners Bible Church International Uyo, Akwaibom collapsed during the consecration of its pastor as a bishop,with many dignitaries including the state governor, Udom Emmanuel.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has disclosed that only six (6) persons where killed when the building caved in from the center.

The Public Relations Officer of NEMA, Sani Datti confirmed this in a statement issued on Sunday. He said that after an overall search of every nook and cranny of the scene, both inside and outside the church scene, only 6 persons died and 115 persons were injured.


The State Governor has said that the state government will bear the medical cost of all those injured and also the take care of the families of those killed. "We will agree that this scenery hasn't been experienced before, therefore I will set up a panel of inquiry to find our the root and cause of the collapsing with a view to forestalling the recurrence of such incident and bring to book persons found to have compromised professional standards in the construction of the building".

We appeal to citizens of our dear State to remain calm, pray for the injured and avoid undue speculation as the situation is being given the best possible attention.
