#IMSU Editorial:Check Out The Aerial View Of The Sheen IMSU Love Garden (facts vs facts)

Duru Victor

Many call it the IMSU Love Garden, for some Mazi Owunna Recreational Park but it remains unarguably the most popular place as far as Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) is concerned.

The Sheen park which gulped about N150M was commissioned on Tuesday, 23rd of September, 2014 by the Executive Governor of Imo State H.E. Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha.

Built by the Chief Peter Sunday Owunna Memorial Foundation under the chairmanship of his Lordship Most Rev. Dr. G.O. Ochiagha (Emeritus Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese) in memory of the then Pro-Chancellor who championed the Park's new look - Mazi Clement Owunna.

Four years down the line, the park still remains the hub of Imo Stars, the centre of attraction to visitors and a subtle love nests for love birds - Did I mention it is home to scholars for night "jacking".

Have a feel of the bird eye view of the park.

Duru Victor

The Dean Student Affairs Prof. Nwankwo Martins Uchenna has refuted claims that Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) has quit the ongoing ASUU strike.

The Dean made this assertion, while fielding questions on the purported jettisoning of the ASUU strike by IMSU, in a text statement sent to IMSU STAR NEWSPAPER Correspondent Duru Victor on Saturday (last week).

This is following the withdrawal of some universities from the ASUU strike, the lastest of which is the Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU).

Prof. Martins also revealed that the Non-academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) IMSU Chapter hasn't called off its industrial action, laying to bed another rumor that IMSU-NASU had called off its strike.

He said: "Imo State University, Owerri is 100% on strike, both teaching and non-teaching staff".

Meanwhile, while the ASUU strike lingers with the purported meeting between both parties today unlikely, first semester lectures have fully commenced at the IMSU Study Centre of the National Teachers' Institute (NTI) for 2019/2020 academic session.

Duru Victor

The Faculty of Humanities IMSU Annex building has been completely razed to the ground today.

The raging inferno which began in the wee hours of today destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

As to the cause of the inferno, a lecturer of the affected faculty who doesn't want his name in prints blamed electricity malfunctions for the mishap while equalling shifting blames to the ongoing ASUU strike.

He said: "We were notified of the fire incident by 4:00am. I got to the area by 5:00am and contacted the fire service. There was little to be salvaged when they arrived the scene. This wouldn't have been the case if the school was in session".
