NUC NEWLY APPROVED GRADING SYSTEM FOR NIGERIAN VARSITIES

Vice-Chancellors , Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Academics, as well as directors of Academic Planning (DAPs), converged at the National Universities Commission (NUC), on Monday the 21st day of September, 2016 for a one-day workshop on the evaluation of varsities grading structure. The workshop a platform for relevant stakeholders to review the existing grading pattern with a view to arriving at a general acceptable & uniform method of computing the CGPAs, in the NUS. The executive secretary noted that while some disciplines used the 6 grade point of 5,4,3,2,1,0 for letters A,B,C,D,E,F grades respectively, other spheres he said removed the letter E grade, thereby having points 5,4,3,2,0 for A,B,C,D,F respectively. He disclosed that these methods had undeniably introduced two systems of grading within the NUS that had some technical implications on the grading of students. In a meeting held on Friday, 7th October 2016, the grading system for grade point in Nigerian Universities was approved that 3.5-4.0 CGPA should be classified as first class honors.
