The
vice chancellor of Igbinedion, Okada, Edo State, Prof. Eghosa Osaghe, spoke about this
on Wednesday in an interview with NAN at Benin.
He said that each university should be allowed to have
its own admission criteria / cut-off marks because the statuses of Nigerian
tertiary institutions are not the same.
If you want to push all Varsities to have the same
standard or the same level of operation, then you are waving off the main
relevance of Competitiveness.
Universities work very hard enough to be the best
because they want to be the best because they want to be on top & the
considerations of top varsities should not be the same with the considerations
of the universities who have very low standard of operation.
Prof. Eghosa also said that “We have a matriculating
body, JAMB,
let it be disturbed with administering entrance examinations while Tertiary
institutions should be allowed to choose their criteria for admitting students.
“You cannot equalize institutions & fix the same
standard of cut-off marks for them all,…Top varsities always have Stringent
requirements that is practiced all over world. If you want to go Havard or
Oxford, you must have good grades before you would be considered Admission.
