The President of Federal Republic of Nigeria has ordered FUTO host communities to return the lands it grabbed from the institution with immediate effect
The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) has ordered all host communities of Federal University of Technology, Owerri(FUTO) to return the lands it grabbed from the institution with immediate effect.
The President of Nigeria who was ably represented by the Minister of States , Education, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, gave the order in his address at the 30th convocation ceremony of the school, on Saturday 7th April, 2018.

According to him, the Federal Government would no longer tolerate the act by the host communities.
“I have been alerted about that this unwholesome act which has risen to unprecedented dimensions in recent times as private buildings are sited close to the university arena, and I would no longer fold my hands and watch FG lands being taken away by unscrupulous individuals” Buhari said.

However, he instructed the police to embark on thorough investigation into the land encroachment menace, just as he issued a warning to them not to allow any casualty while carrying out their duties.
Buhari pointed out to the host communities that siting of universities in their communities is a blessing and they should desist henceforth from encroaching on university land and endeavour to return such plots to the institution for its development.
"The recent demolition of new illegal construction sites by the university management is approved by me and should send a clear warning to land speculators and other individuals who purposely engage in encroachment on the university land.
Also, the losses created via the demolition of buildings would be avoided if speculators desist from constructing their buildings on the university land. I urge the school management to continue this demolition exercise as the federal government is solidly in support of it"....He said
Also, the Chancellor of FUTO, HRH Muhammadu Musdafa also stated earlier in his speech that he is not happy with the land encroachment situation in his school and warned that the university will not "Give Out" any inch of its land to anybody.
