All roads led to the Imo State University Auditorium, Thursday 25th, 2019 as her 19th Inaugural Lecture held today. The 19th Inaugural Lecture themed "BEHIND THE URBANISING FRINGE: Stress and struggle of biodiversity " had Prof. Peter Ugochukwu Okorie (Professor of Wildlife and Fisheries) as its Inaugural Lecturer.
The Inaugural Lecture was graced by principal officers of the institution as well as renowned academics as Prof. B.E.B Nwoke, a former Vice Chancellor, who ably represented the Vice Chancellor; Prof. I.C. Okonkwo (a former Vice Chancellor); Chairman, Traditional Rulers of Imo State, HRH. Chidi Obiefule.The Dean of Agriculture, Adekunle Ajasin University was also in attendance.
The colourful academic investiture began some minutes past 11am with the procession by principal officers of the citadel of learning which include Former Vice Chancellors and Acting Vice Chancellors, Deans and Directors, distinguished Professors, Heads of Departments and what have you. The PRO of the institution was the Master of Ceremony and lived up to the billing of the name.
The procession was immediately followed with an opening prayer after which the Nigeria national anthem, IMSU's and Imo State's was recited.
The Director-In-Charge of Research and Linkages of the institution, Dr. Obinna gave the citation on the inaugural lecturer.
Prof. P.U. Okorie (Dean of Faculty of Science cum the Inaugural Lecturer) while expressing gratitude to the institution for her support, attributed his early inspiration and choice of lecture topic to an encounter in an Ethiope River he was exposed to by his Botanist teacher back in Secondary school while on an ecology field work.
