UPDATE NIPOFERD TROPISYMPOSIUM 2017 — 6TH PRESENTATION

NIPOFERD TROPISYMPOSIUM 2017

6th Presentation — Mrs. C. N. Nwogu
GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND CARCASS CHARACTERISTIC EFFECTS OF REPLACING MAIZE WITH PALM KERNEL NUT MEAL (PKNM) IN BROILER DIETS IN SOUTHEASTERN NIGERIA.

Conclusion (Although she has to do some corrections in her research work)...

— Results from this study shows that PKN is cheaper than maize and sorghum in southeastern Nigeria even though it yields similar CP & much superior metabolized energy values.

— Birds fed diets containing 40% PKNM replacement of maize were most efficient in utilization of feed and also had a superior growth performance and is recommended to farmers as the Optimal replacement level.

— Certain pathologies relating to excessive depositions of fat on important organs may limit the use of high level of PKNM in the diets of broilers.
