GOVERNOR ROCHAS OKOROCHA TO DEMOLISH NEW MARKET OWERRI NEXT MONTH

The Governor of Imo State, Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha OON, has threatened to demolish some parts of another market in Owerri main town popularly called New Market, situated at Ama Hausa, Douglas road.

Recall that on Saturday 26th August, 2017, the Governor of Imo State demolished Eke-Ukwu Owerri Market and relocated it to Egbeada, Mbaitolu LGA. Since that day, there has been serious chaos in the state between Owerri Youths and Ohaji/Egbema Youths for issues yet to be clarified.
Though some indigenes of Owerri said that the Governor hired the Ohaji/Egbema youths to act as thugs, then chase the traders of the demolished Eke-Ukwu Owerri market as the traders were resisting to park their goods out from their various shops.

A Public affairs activist said @ AIT TV that the Governor was ignoramus of the fact that the demolished Eke-Ukwu Owerri market has some ancestral emotions attached to it, he referred to it as "UGWUMABIRI" and that he didn't do the necessary traditional rites before demolishing the market.

Coming down to the street, a young man (anonymous) told My news villa crew that the Governor is not even through with the construction of the supposed new market where he told the traders to relocate. He said that even the road that leads to the new site location is filled with pot holes, ie not Motorable and will affect the traders on the part of transporting their goods.

Another youth, a lady said that she really loves the idea of relocating the Eke-Ukwu Owerri market by the Governor of Imo State. Moreover she has been bullied most times along Douglas road by cult boys during the day without no one saying anything or helping out.
But the Governor used a wrong approach, adding that in the Course of the forcedly demolition, most business men & women lost their goods and also not to talk of the sad story of the promising young boy of 10years old killed by a flying bullet, shot by the Army on that Saturday.

Last month, the Governor gave the traders of New Market (in some parts), Ama Hausa, Douglas road Owerri Seven (7) days ultimatum to park out their goods as the market has the same fate with Eke-Ukwu Owerri. But in a meeting with the leaders of New Market, they pleaded with the Governor to extend the quite notice time a little further as 7 days was too short. Finally, Governor Rochas gave them One (1) Month extra to demolish it in October 2017.
