ASUU STRIKE UPDATE: THE VICE PRESIDENT DID NOT TAKE OVER NEGOTIATIONS - PRESIDENCY


On Wednesday 30th August, 2017, Media Reporters Reported that after the Federal Executive Council meeting between the Minister of Labour & Employment and the Presidency as regards treating the problems preventing lecturers from going to work, the minister announced that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo “has taken over some of the aspects of the negotiations and discussions” with striking university lecturers.
The presidency has corrected the statement stating that the Minister was "Misstated".

In a statement released by the spokesman to the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande, on Friday 1st September, however, he stated that Prof. Osibanjo will not take over the negotiations between the Academic Staff Union of Universities & the Federal Government.

Journalists misunderstood what the Minister of Labour & Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige meant when he spoke with them after the negotiations at the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

Mr Olaolu added that though the Vice President had a brief meeting with the Labour & Employment Minister and his education counterpart, Malam Adamu Adamu around the issues, but has not taken over the negotiations as widely reported. He said Mr. Ngige and Mr. Adamu "will continue to lead the FG- ASUU talks".

"The Federal Government will continue to seek an immediate and possible solution towards the resolution of the cold conflict between her and the Academic Staff Union of Universities", he added.
