The Students' Union Government & Man O' War Frowns at the Increasing theft reports in FUTO Hotels

The Students' Union Government & Man O' War Frowns at the Increasing theft reports in FUTO Hotels

Stealing means to take illegally, or without the owner's permission, something owned by someone else.
In the bible, the Almighty God condemned the act and placed a punishment for it. It is something that has the tendency to close down a Generation. Stealing dents the Image of a person.

The act of stealing has become a normal activity being conducted by someone or some group of persons within the shores of FUTO Hostels.
The case scenarios are becoming alarming to the Hostel Occupants.

It is so disheartening and sad that someone would derive joy illegally taking away the cloth or belongings of a fellow student.
How could someone be so comfortable wearing what isn't his or hers all in the name of Stealing...?(Rhetorical)

At Hostel B, It was reported that clothes keep on missing especially at the hostel quadrangle. You would hang your clothes at the quadrangle or keep your gallon to fetch water and once you turn your back, someone else illegally claims ownership.

Although this clothe looting case isn't actually a fresh story. Sometime in 2015, a student who was an Occupant of Hostel E, then 100L unfortunately stole the clothes of the Man O' War Commander-in-Chief and he was also unlucky to have been sighted by a Man O' War officer in the course of the scene and was made to dance the tune of his music.
This is a case that every Man O' War, Commander-in-Chief is left to treat.

This time around, the complaints of hostel occupants has reached the ear drums of our amiable SUG President, Comr. Duru Donatus (GCSS) and he has vowed to make the culprits dance the dancing steps of their music.
"I will thoroughly treat the reports of theft in our hostels with the help of all Security Agencies on campus..." He said.

The Chief Investigating Officer of Man O' War, FUTO Command, has warned all persons involved in this ugly act to repent from it and return all stolen property within 72hours. Refusal to do as advised should be prepared to dance the music.

Punishments to be given:
1) If you're cut putting on someone's clothe inside school, you will be forced to go home naked from school.

2) All other punishments are classified.

About three Students almost lost their Admission as a result of reporting Student matters to external bodies instead of the School Management.

On this note the School Management warns strictly that no Student of Federal Polytechnic Nekede should report any form of disagreement or issues to external bodies, but rather direct all their issues to the Division of Students Affair and Students' Union Government Officials to handle the matter amicably.

More also, do not involve the Police, the Army or any other external Force outside the School Management in matters that concerns the Nigerian Students.

Shocking News: The State of the Newly Constructed Eziobodo FUTO Road

Shocking News: The State of the Newly Constructed Eziobodo FUTO Road

It used to be Eziobodo and it's bad road. It used to be the State Government doesn't give a damn about the community. It used to be the Eze of the Community is just there to eat up money brought for the construction of the Eziobodo FUTO Road towards Ihiagwa Community.

Some time early November 2016, the Niger Delta Development Commission {NDDC} took over the construction of the spoilt and abandoned Eziobodo FUTO Road.
Some of the houses and road side kiosks, dilapidated ones too that were seen to be causing obstruction to the Road Construction as at that time, was bulldozed.
All these created the fine smooth, clean road route that we see in Eziobodo today.

Have you noticed that the rainfall rate is increasing day by day...?
Yesterday & day before yesterday was something else. I came into Eziobodo FUTO Road and was annoyed at the state of the drainage system (gutter) in Eziobodo.

The People who were in charge of the Road Construction in 2016, deemed it fit to construct a drainage system (gutter) for easy flow & channel of rain water. Can you imagine that the Students living in this area, the villagers & the traders(especially) converted the drainage system into refuse dump system.

They succeeded in converting the only passage of rainwater into a refuse bin. They regularly dump their waste in gutters, and this clogs the gutters and prevents the flow of water, causing the gutters to overflow.
After a session of rainfall, you will see the streets of Eziobodo flooded with litter floating everywhere. Such situations create very unsanitary conditions for residents of the neighborhoods and contribute to the degradation of the environment.
The craziest story is that I saw traders comfortably selling on top of the flooded gutter and students are even patronizing them. Everyone is portraying the usual "I don't care attitude", seeing the waste disposed inside the gutter being brought on top by rainfall and not doing anything to it.

In 2012, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), disclosed that 30 states out of 36 in Nigeria were affected by flood, causing damages of an estimated value of N2.6 trillion Naira, 363 people were feared dead while 2.1 million citizens were displaced across Nigeria. These floods also gave rise to environmental pollution problems which affected the health of Nigerians across the various affected areas.
Nigeria is currently experiencing its annual rainy season, and in order to avoid lethal floods, it is important to have very effective drainage systems and strive towards ensuring free flow of water during and after heavy downpours.

Deterioration of health is another effect of flooding, due to the increase in waterborne diseases and unsanitary conditions. Stagnation of water occurs when water passages are blocked. This makes the people around such environments susceptible to infections from mosquitoes and other insects. We are exposed to numerous air and water borne diseases if we have our environments polluted with stagnant water.

Poor waste management habits can adversely affect our environment more than we can even think of and bet me, you don't want to experience it.

FUTO 30th Convocation Ceremony: Material & Metallurgical Engineering Department Produces a First Class Student after 10 Years

FUTO 30th Convocation Ceremony: Material & Metallurgical Engineering Department Produces a First Class Student after 10 Years

THE LADY THAT BROKE THE JINX

In life, there is no limitation to what we can achieve. There is nothing too big for a human being to do. All it requires is a dint of hard work, determination, zealousness and an unrelenting passion.

Some years ago, I got admitted to study Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (known as Met/Mat or MME) in Federal University of Technology, (FUTO). The first impression I received from older students of the department was “Met/Mat na akpo department”, “The department tough so tey person no fit make first class” etc. that was the notion and sadly enough, a lot of us believed such wrong notion.

Today, history is being made! To an extent, it is about TEN (10) years since the department produced a ‘First class graduate’ but today, the story has changed. A lady has broken the jinx with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.55. She has been found worthy in character and learning. She will be conferred a ‘FIRST CLASS HONORS’ degree. She has opened the way and done that which people felt was impossible. It was not done by magic. It was as a result of a blend of academic seriousness and dedication to studies. The question now is; “Who is she?”

EZEH CHIAMAKA CYNTHIA popularly known as ‘Chimaxino’ has done it again. Her success story did not start today. It all began in her days as a fresher. Haven been admitted, she knew her goals and aspiration, hence she was conscious of the fact that she needed to work hard in order to reach the zenith of her goals. She began to study her books judiciously.

Before the end of her third year, she began to top her mates. Her answer scripts was just a replica of the lecturer’s marking scheme. One unique thing about her is her ability to combine her academic life with student politics. She was never the ‘bookish’ type. She was very versatile both in her social, political campus and academic life. She is an Imo state born student political leader well-known for her political shrewdness.

In her sophomore, she became the Assistant Secretary General of the National Association of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Students (NAMMES), FUTO Chapter. The following year, she became the Vice President of the same organization. A duty she discharged with all manner of political enthusiasm. She became a political giant in the department and beyond. After haven served the department, she decided to go national. She contested and won the post of Vice President of NAMMES NATIONAL (a body that unites all Met/Mat students in several institutions within the country). While as the National Vice President, she organized the last NAMMES National conference held at FUTO on 26th January, 2018.

She has this special gift of making a tough course look simple for you when you approach her for tutorials. She is a brainbox and a lover of books. Chiamaka is not only a ‘First class’ material on paper but in all spheres of life.

It should be noted that Chiamaka is an ebullient and erudite scholar with a difference, a repertoire of knowledge and a repository of wisdom and intellectual force within the Engineering field and beyond. When it comes to Metallurgy, she has a vast and practical knowledge of Materials testing, Foundry, Welding technology, Metallurgical Heat Treatment, Principles of Corrosion Engineering, Iron and Steel making etc. She is full of innovative ideas and creativities, loves helping people. She is also a good graphics and web designer, a professional bead maker and a wire work designer.

When it comes to religious activities, she is not left out. She is a strong catholic and a member of Lay Readers association in the Catholic Chaplaincy (known as St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Chaplaincy). She was the secretary of the yearbook committee and also among the team that produced an electronic yearbook. She is currently working on a book which she hopes to publish to share the secrets of her success.

Today, the bells of success will be rung because Chiamaka has achieved a rare feat. Like an academic colossus, she has withstood all academic obstacles on her way, she has fought a good race and now she awaits the crown of honor. An honor that is well-deserved.

Today, she will join the league of ‘First class honors’ graduates from other departments to be presented to the crowd. She has broken the jinx and has paved way for others to follow her line of success. She has let the world know that a ‘First class graduate’ can come from a department which people saw as being ‘akpo’ or ‘tough’. To an extent, the department is tough but she has disproved people’s doubt.

Today, the accolades of praises and congratulatory messages will roll out on her behalf. The camera flash will continually flash as she smiles to the camera. She will be celebrated on such an outstanding achievement. The long hours of reading and burning the midnight candle has finally paid off for her. Her parents are happy. Her friends are happy. The department is happy. Her lecturers are happy. The institution is happy and proud of her. Her success story will forever remain in the archives of academic success as she has made a name for herself.

Friends, I enjoin you to celebrate with her. I enjoin you to identify with her. Remember, when you celebrate the success of others, success will come your way. The litanies of congratulatory messages will never be enough for her as her body, soul and heart is filled with joy on an auspicious day like this. I celebrate with her. I doff my cap for her. I give thanks to God for the gift of life and academic wisdom bestowed on her. I also congratulate her parents, the lecturers that formed basis of her intellectual sagacity and all those that contributed to the success of this rare feat. I wish her well in future life pursuits. It is our collective hope that in no distant time, more ‘First Class honors’ graduates will emerge from the department.

I also use this medium to congratulate the 2017 graduating class of FUTO who has been found worthy in character and in learning. I wish you well in your various life pursuits.
Congratulations once more.
