They've been extorting from us, no one complained. We kept mute and they regarded us as "GP conscious students". People think we protested only because of the N10,000 increment in tuition fee. No! That was not the only reason. Our protest was as a result of accumulated anger.

Only FUTOITES know the real reason. For the 2016/2017 academic session, they increased the tuition fee. We didn't complain, we paid. Acceptance fee was increased, we paid. Hostel accommodation fee was increased, we paid. Course registration fee was increased, we registered.

That's not all. Some of the things included in the school fee were also paid again in the school (medical fee, SUG dues, library fee etc). They claimed that the initial increment was for "enhanced ICT", promising us WiFi in lecture halls and hostels. We are almost at the end of Harmattan semester but still no WiFi. You go to the medical centre only to receive half of the drugs prescribed by the doctor, asked to buy the remaining and forced to sign that all drugs were collected by you free of charge.

We have been neglected for so long and there was need for the protest. Why give students ultimatum for the payment of tuition?  All our complaints have been neglected.

We are glad that our message has been passed. Since the SUG failed to speak for us, we have done it in our own way. And I think our voice was loud and clear.

It is our right to protest when all forms of dialogue and negotiation has been exhausted, especially in this era of civilization, But we stand against any form of Violence and Vandalism.

The incident on Friday 17-02-2017 was a public expression of accumulated grievance and pain but was channeled in a wrong manner as a result of misguided information.

The Brain Behind the FUTO's Peaceful RIOT

As at about 8am, the aggrieved Students of the prestigious FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY OWERRI (FUTO) stormed the streets of FUTO and environs, on a peaceful protest, against the undeserved and unjust policies being meted out on the students recently. According to some of the protesters who pleaded anonymity, the FUTO SUG has been compromised as they are not carrying out their duties properly.

They further added that due to the economic recession currently happening in the Country, the increase in school fees was totally unfair and unacceptable, wicked, heartless and Unjust.

“Every new session in FUTO, one unexplained policy, will emanate from the management, in a bid to intimidate NIGERIAN STUDENTS and force money out of students pockets.
"They Started with online verification of students' accounts via online for payment of School fees and accommodation fees, They(ICT) didn't send memos to various departments, You would have to go to your Department and plead hell with them for them to send back the list of students' reg numbers as advised by the ICT. This frustrated Alot of us especially those of us leaving at Lagos, Abuja, Sokoto, etc as we can't come back due to non availability of accommodation because the said you must pay your school fees before you pay of accommodation. One of the aggrieved students said.

According to some other protesters, FUTO is currently the Federal University with the highest school fees. They also further stated that the fees has been constant for many years until the new VC (Prof. Eze) came into office.

Most of the reasons for their grievance as follows:

1. They have succeeded in increasing school fees, by up to 40%.
2. They have over the years denied us access to schools Wi Fi connectivity, of which #10000 from our school fee is tagged ICT FEE. (Students pay for Wi-Fi, and staff use the Wi-Fi)
3. Now, they are giving us a mandate, to pay up our increased school fees, on or before today, 17th February 2017 otherwise face a penalty of 10,000 and even stand the risk of not writing exam.
4. We are paying for transport within school via school buses but we haven’t seen any of such.
5. Graduates of 2016 are expected to pay extra N5,000 for school fees.
6. Course registrations are now tripled the price.
7. Even the Pedegree students were also affected, their application fee which was #10000 was also hiked by additional #1000 which made it #11000
8. We are supposed to be supplied electricity via the school's Lister from 7pm to 12am and from 5am to 6am, But the school's operator would hoard the petrol and won't supply us light for months yet everyone would keep quiet!!!......
9. The ManOwar who call themselves security people would go around stealing, harrassing, maltreating and doing unjust things to Nigerian Students and no one would talk. Enough is Enough!!!!........
10. A day scheduled for lecture free would come but lectures would still go to class and teach telling you it (the class) isn't compulsory but they would give free marks to students who attend the lecture.
11. The School's Hostel Is just the worst of it all!!!...... You need to see the standard of FUTO's Hostels!, The Convenience is a dead zone, the environs are always dirty, everything is just casted! You would see students defecating on the bathroom just because the toilets are dirty. The School would want you to live in the Hostel....Under these Conditions?? NoWAY!!
12. Every session you would be compiled to pay #500 for Library Fees and you must show your school fees receipt before you would be allowed to register for a place that's not even equipped. A Place 5 persons would be waiting 1hr by 1hr to read "State and Society" textbook.
13. Our Bus transport fees that used to be #100 was increased to #130. This was also included in our school fees receipt.
No one is Talking!!.....

“Nigeria students are not happy. FUTO students are not happy. We have endured enough. We have been calm and intimidated enough. We can no longer take this. We are up on our feet. Our sister Federal Universities of Technology, are not facing the same. There is a mix up somewhere and we want to know the reason for the mix up today” they said.

In the course of the Peaceful RIOT, windows of lecture halls were broken, laptops were stolen from the ICT unit together with UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply), standing fans and stabilizers etc. Windscreens of FUTO buses were also broken down. Street lights in the school were also broken and the entire school properties were vandalized by the agrieved students of FUTO.
The Vice Chancellor of the School, Prof. Francis Eze fled the school premises in fear of his life.
Plans to use the FUTO Man’O War as well as army and police officials proved abortive as they were out numbered. However, the armed men who came to bring the protest to an end only ended up throwing tear gas at the students which made them even more angrier. The protest is undoubtedly first ever destructive RIOT in FUTO.

Also one of the students by name Comr. Ogbonna Rochas Collins (Former SUG PRO) was arrested by the DSS, been the one who headed the protest. On the other hand, a student was also shot on the leg.
As of 2:30pm today, students in the hostels was directed to leave the hostel before 4pm.

     The functions of a Student's Union Government which happens to be they Students VOICE in any higher institution across the globe is to amongst other things_(a)Ensure/Advocate for a more conducive /Better Learning environment for all students at any point (b)Bridge the communication Gap between the School Management and students (which is the Main Stay of the Management_Without Students,No Management), (c)Agitate for the Welfarism of Nigerian Students. How far has the APEX students Body acted in the face of outrageous 100% hike in fees in Futo and Futo Alone???Do they students really have representatives?        For our information fellow students, FUTA, FUTMIN and FUTYOLA    are Fed.Universities of Technology like Futo  with as low as #13,000  Acceptance Fee and as low as #20,000 sch fees for all the levels with good motorable roads,uninterrupted powersupply,free WI_FI,Good lecturer to student relationship and many more.UNIUYO is a State University and pays as low as #15,000 Acceptance fee with a more conducive learning environment.Futo is a Federal University for crying out loud!.Don't they assess funds from various interventionist organisations like TETFUND,PTDF, NNDC,, ETF and UNESCO. What do we do fellow students? Where are the members of the Legislature, Judiciary,MAN O'WAR,Military students, ICPC, Boys Brigade, Hall Government Excos,NFCS, ALCOL, NIFES and all other Religious bodies on campus,Off campus Administration (Lodge Presidents), Serving and Past Students Leaders at all levels, Ass.of Course Reps and indeed every matriculated Nigerian student in Futo.We MUST take our destinies into our hands now. It is our Thing NOT their Thing. We must engage the authorities into Constructive Dialogue this time since nobody has spoken for the betterment of Futoites since resumption (3months ago). When Peaceful Negotiations fails, Mass Protests becomes inevitable. It is our Right,,It is Legal,,, It is constitutional.

               Less I forget, Futo with increasing population of over 50,000people(students both Regular,Weekend, Postgraduate and teeming staff ) with host communities of Obinze, Umuchima,Ihiagwa and Eziobodo    has only commercial bank operating on campus.Our just graduated students are not left out as each person pays  mandatory #5000(recently introduced ).,No self con is below #80,000.Prices of Goods and Services have sky rocked. Any average student barely feeds twice daily. How then can he/she listen/comprehend in class and pass exams, to become a world class Engineer or problem Solver in this computer age. We call on our Parents, NANS, NAISS, MEDIA, DSS,POLICE, VARIOUS YOUTH ORGANISATIONS, ORGANIZED LABOUR and other good spirited individuals to help us avert this looming Sufferings and help in building the Futo of our dreams in line with the missions and visions of our Founding Fathers. The time to act is now or never.

Facebook bans illegal discrimination

Facebook has updated its advertising policies to ban discrimination based on personal characteristics, including race, sexual orientation or age.

There is also a new section aimed at educating advertisers about the extent to which ad targeting is allowed on the social network, reported The Guardian

Facebook plans to use technology "that leverages machine learning" to identify the most egregious offenders - those that "offer housing, employment or credit opportunities" in a discriminatory manner.

The move follows accusations that the social network offered tools that allowed advertisers to break American anti-discrimination laws through an ad-targeting feature described as "ethnic affinity" profiling.

Now, if Facebook's tools think that a user is attempting to implement the "multicultural advertising segments" targeting unlawfully, it will force them to undergo manual review, with a Facebook employee explicitly checking for compliance.

Participants who fail to upload their Picture will earn 30% of their Provided Help in Bitcoin in 30days and 20% of their Provided Help in Local Currency. Participants who Upload their Picture will Earn their Complete 50% in Bitcoin in 30days and 30% for Local Currency in 30days. Participants who upload fake pictures will be Blocked when their ID is requested and compared with the uploaded picture. However, you cannot Get Help if you have not Provided Help. Request for providing help comes to you in your Dashboard. If you do not do it within 48 hours, you will be removed from the system. REGISTRATION BONUS

When registering in the system, you get from $20 to $100 as a One Time Registration Bonus in Bitcoin and 4,000 to 20,000 as One Time Registration Bonus in Your Local Currency. Bonuses are given only once, not every time. Only those who’s first Pledge to Provide Help falls within the bonus range. (Otherwise the System will be pulled apart for bonuses). Credibility Score Index

Credibility Score index is a custom rating logic implemented into the system to ensure fair-play and honesty. Each new account is started with 100% rating, however, penalties are enforced when guidelines are broken, which lead to the deduction of score point. This is to ensure all members act and respond according to the guidelines of the community.

Key Guidelines / Penalties include the following

If you are paired and you contact the money-receiving member, asking for a 24hr time extension to make payment, once he/she approves in his account, you will lose 25% of your credibility score.

If you offer to provide help and you cancel the offer (before you are paired), 5% score point will be deducted from your Credibility score card.

If discovered that your profile contains wrong profile picture/ information, 50% will be deducted.

If you fail to provide help to a paired member and expiry date elapses, your Credibility Score will be wiped out to Zero (0), which leads to automatic profile suspension.

Account/Profile suspension means you will no longer be able to place or receive help from this platform, for resolution, please send an email to support@gethelpworldwide.com .

Finally, please note that Credibility Score value is a key input for the “automatic pairing and assigning control system”; this system is solely responding for matching requests to offers. Members will higher Credibility Score will have higher priority for paring

REFERRAL BONUS

You get 10% from all deposits of the participant you invited. Inviting new members into the Community is your additional contribution to its development. But nobody force the members of the Community to invite new participants. But at the same time, understanding that the GHW platform can’t exist without development and participants’ encouragement in the form of referral bonuses motivate many people to take an active position.

GUIDERS/SPONSORS

There are NO Guiders/Sponsors in this Platform. This platform has been DESIGNED TO LAST FOREVER and therefore does not support the excess payout privileges of Guiders which drains the system. This will keep the Community Growing instead of being setback by people who will give help of $1,000 for example and after Getting Help of $1,500 they decide to Provide Help of $10 in their next Pledge. Such doesn’t work here on GHW
