HULT PRIZE comes to IMSU, Owerri
Dubbed by many especially the media as the “Nobel Prize for Students”, Hult Prize
– the world’s largest students’ competition for the creation of new ideas for social
businesses which based in Boston | San Francisco | London | Dubai | Shanghai,
comes to our campus: Imo State University, Owerri.
This brilliant bold feat was made possible after one of our own, a 300 level student
of Computer Science – Uchegbulam Abel Onyekachi was selected a Campus
Director by the Foundation in London, thereby putting Imo on the global students’
map.
It came barely a month after he also made it to Finals at the World Youth Essay
Competition in Berlin, Germany.
Beaming with smiles, he believes that his fellow Imo stars has all it takes and
urges them to come all out to participate to win this year’s Hult Prize, as full time
awareness campaigns are in top gear in and around the University community to
hosting this annual event for the first time, which awards USD 1Million in start-up
seed funding.
This event, in partnership with the United Nations is looking for the top team(s)
be it BSc, MSc or PhD from this intra-campus event that develops the most radical
and breakthrough idea to solve one of our world’s toughest social challenges, and
that will automatically advance to compete in one of 15 regional Finals happening
around the world next March.
The winning team from each host city will then move onto a Summer Business
Accelerator, where participants will receive mentorship, advisory and strategic
planning as they create prototypes and set-up to launch their new social business.
A final round of competition will be hosted in September 2019 at the United
Nations Headquarters, New York, where the winning team will be awarded the $1,000,000 Prize.

"I was forced to declare the election inconclusive" -Aladinma Alliance Electoral Chairman cries out, resigns from his position as the EC
Recall that the election of the students of Aladinma alliance held on Saturday the 11th of August, 2018 was declared inconclusive by the Electoral Chairman due to unforseen reasons. It has now been revealed that the election was declared inconclusive under duress.
In a chat with Infoscope Media, the former Electoral Chairman, HRH. Obi Emmanuel revealed that he was forced to declare the alliance election inconclusive. Stating that the security personnels employed to ensure the security of the conduct turned against him. In his words he continued that : "Their DPO (the security personnels) received a call from the state CID that there are reports of people threatening each other and I should cancel the election. They didn't even allow me the privilege to enquire the reasons for the cancellation. This is after the sorting of ballot papers".
Meanwhile, and in a related twist, the former EC tendered his resignation as the Chairman, Electoral committee of the Alliance election submitting that he cannot remain in a committee where he is been used.
Below is the full text of the resignation note:
I obi Emmanuel the recent Electoral committee chairman of ALADINMA STUDENTS ALLIANCE, IMO STATE UNIVERSITY OWERRI
I wish to use this medium to brief on all the students who in their own hearts participated on the Alliance Election held on Saturday 11th August which was declared inconclusive
Why I declared the Election inconclusive was that the police people I was working with then suddenly turned the whole of our efforts down by telling me that the state CID police division called the DPO, Orji police division that he heard some people were threntening some other people's life, which after the election was declared inconclusive by me the said I should follow them to police station for more clarifications which I did.
Up till this moment no evidence was shown to me concerning what brought to the cancellation of the election
I hereby notify the whole students residing at the alliance that I was forced to cancel that Election which I was not biased rather I taught it wise that all the stake holders at the alliance are highly corrupt.
So in the view of this I therefore RESIGN henceforth as the electoral chairman
for me not to entangle myself with those police men and the alliance stake holders

Aladinma Students Election 2018: Electoral Chairman Spells out reasons for election postponement
Reporter: Duru Victor
Recall that the students of Aladinma Alliance were supposed to go to the polls last week Saturday being the 4th of August, 2018. It however didn't hold as the Electoral Committee through its chairman called for the postponement of the election.
As to the reasons for the postponement of the elections the Electoral Chairman- HRH Obi Emmanuel, told Infoscope Media when he was approached, that it was due to the non-compliance and unpreparedness of the aspirants.
He assured that the elections will now hold on Saturday 11th of August, 2018.

It was alleged that a front line presidential candidate, Mr. Uzoma Promise (Avalon) had forged the signature of his faculty dean while filling the election form. The election had only two contenders for the presidential post while other offices were unopposed.
Speaking to news men at the election venue, the electoral chairman, Mr. Ifeanyi Jesse said "it's a case of impersonation, one of the presidential aspirant impersonated the signature of the faculty dean, it's a very serious offense which stands the risk of disqualification, although the report came late based on the confirmation" he said.
On the decision of the electoral committee, he said "judging by the evidences, the votes won't count".

The election was declared inconclusive by the electoral chairman Mr. Jesse after counting the casted votes and Comrade Avalon topped with 389 votes, while the runner up had 296 votes. Total ballot of 840, 151 un-used, 4 void.
Uzoma Promise (Avalon) Casting his vote |
"My opinion about the matter is that this is not an ordinary election..if they really wanted a free and fair election..the signature and other things would have been checked before the election started...but unfortunately the issue was not tackled early".
"The election has been declared inconclusive, now the Electoral committee and other necessary body are to investigate if it was really a forgery or something else... If it’s a forgery the Electoral body now need to do what is needed to be done in such cases buh if otherwise he should be declared d winner".
"There is nothing they can do about that as it was discovered after voting and counting".
Another student leader, banking and finance president, Adiele Victor who resides also in bishop's court opted
"I will say that d election was free and fair, and according to statistics comr.Avalon won d election..The issue of forgery of avalon dean's signature is something else.. Yes we all know that forgery x an offense but to be critical I will blame d electoral committee for their negligence in finding out on time..He went through screening, manifesto, yet d didn't disqualified him..not until the vote has been counted, and it was obvious that he won..d chairman of d electoral committee declared it inconclusive".
