It is no news to the entire FUTO Community that Friday, the 23rd day of February is the Matriculation Ceremony of the FUTO 2017/2018 Freshmen.

This is to direct them on how to collect the Matriculation Gown.

— You are only expected to pay a sum of #1,000 at the FUTO Microfinance Bank for your Matriculation Brochure.

— Get your school fees receipt.

— Proceed to your department DAO with your School fees receipt and your evidence of payment @ the FUTO Microfinance Bank.

FINAL YEAR FUTO STUDENT INVOLVED IN A COOKING GAS EXPLOSION

On Saturday 10th February, 2018, a Final Year student of FUTO was unfortunately involved in a Cooking Gas Explosion at Victor's Camp, Eziobodo FUTO Road, Behind Sol Lodge.

At about 7:15pm on that unfortunate day, the young man by name Mr. Ajah Callistus, from his story....

"I filled my 12.5kg Gas Cylinder for #4,500 on Wednesday 7th February at a popular Gas filling company along Eziobodo FUTO Road.
After that day, I noticed that my cylinder was leaking gas and I complained to the guy who filled my gas but he didn't listen.
Since Thursday, I have been trying to set up the cylinder myself but I didn't know it had no positive effect.

On Saturday evening, I just came back to my room after escorting out a friend who visited me. I wanted to warm my food and immediately I lit my match, I just heard an explosion on the air and all my body caught fire. Thank God I wasn't even putting on my clothes.

I forgot where I kept my key because my door was locked. Thank God my neighbours heard the noise and the came to bend my door for me to come out. That night we went to FUTO Medical Health Center but no one was there. We went on bike to another hospital before Obinze and they told us to pay #10,000 and later said they can't take good care of me. We went to St John's Hospital Obinze and they gave me 3 Injections, we were advised to go to Federal Medical Center Owerri as they had no good equipments.

I thank God for my friend and lodge mate, Festus who has been carrying me all this while to FMC, without him, God knows what I would have done."

Mr. Ajah Callistus hails from Awugu LGA in Enugu State. He is a 500L Student of Federal University of Technology Owerri, department of Statistics.

THE UNFAVORABLE STATE OF THE FUTO LIBRARY

The library is a conducive and a well constructed institution, containing books and/or other forms of stored information for use by the public or qualified people.

The advantage of a library over a normal room or a reading hall is the presence of books housed for research: referencing. More so the concept of comfortability especially among university students gives it an upper hand.
An effective & efficient library must provide its users with adequate comfortability especially towards its facilities and equipment: power supply, internet (WiFi connection), reading equipment etc.

The FUTO main library is not on its full state of activities due to the ongoing strike action of the Nonacademic Staff union.
Students make use of the library with absence of power supply, making it uncomfortable for reading due to hotness of the environment in addition with the general hot weather we are experiencing presently.

However, students are left with another option of using the new E-library which has power supply and a proper air conditioning system. KUDOS! to the school management for a job well-done.

Notably, there is relatively high increase in library users daily and the inability to access chairs for reading due to increase in population now makes the "Subject matter for this piece".

This little problem increases on daily basis leaving students in another uncomfortable state of crowding in the porch of the building and others jam packing themselves the cushion.

We believe people are bothered by this and by so doing, we wish to use this medium to draw the attention of the library management or better still, the office of the SUG Director of Welfare towards providing a better solutions to this.

Going by the fact that tests are fast approaching, chairs can be relocated temporarily from the main library to the new one for proper comfortability or the library management can see to the provision of power supply in the main library.

BIOCHEMISTRY DEPARTMENTAL IT DEFENCE CANCELLED DUE TO STUDENTS WHO ARE YET TO PAY THEIR DEPARTMENTAL DUES

At about 9:00am this morning, the 300L & 500L students of Biochemistry Department came with heart full of Joy to defend their individual Students' Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

Around 9:45am, the SIWES coordinator informed the students that from the HOD's desk, the SIWES Defense has been cancelled as a result of large number of students who are yet to pay for their departmental dues and school fees.

The SIWES coordinator told them that they would individually need to present their departmental dues receipt, NASS(National Association of Science Students) receipt, school fees receipt and surcharge fees receipt before they would be allowed to defend their IT.

BCH Students started agitating, saying that it is inhuman to suddenly cancel their defense when they have all prepared to defend their Industrial Training.
Judging from the fact that they are all present in school too.

Some of the students said that they should allow them defend today, judging from the fact that the Vice Chancellor has extended the school fees deadline to February 15th, 2018 and since other departments are allowing their students to defend even without paying their school fees.

The SIWES defense date has been postponed till further notice.

FUTO BUS SHUTTLE ACCIDENT IN FRONT OF BIOCHEMISTRY BUILDING

Its a wonderful thing to note that the school management, made available Bus Shuttles to be running in school for easy mobility of students to their various destinations and lecture halls.

Its also disheartening to note that these bus drivers most times, drive carelessly without the students safety at heart.
I remember publishing a news report about this same attitude of drivers but there's no change.

Yesterday, in the morning hours, there was an accident in front of Biochemistry departmental building, the right front tyre of the bus was stuck in the gutter, students came down and Passersby helped pull out the car from the drainage system, we thank God that no one was hurt.

It seems our drivers have thrown caution to the wind.
We plead with you to be a little focused when driving.

DRIVE SAFELY BECAUSE LIFE HAS NO DUPLICATE.

On Saturday 3rd February, 2018, @ 11.39am, a 200L student of Material & Metallurgical Engineering by name, Mr. Okoro Chukwugozie AKA Trace; CEO Kaara Toori, Founder, The Family, surprised the entire FUTO community.

Mr. Trace at of love and care, decided to share out educational materials to 100L FUTO students. Including Past Questions, Workshop Lab coats, Lecture notes etc...

When asked why he was giving out those educational materials, he said he just wanted to make the expenses of 100L students lesser.
