During the official flag off ceremony of the free cataract surgery and opening of the Owerri Eye Centre, the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, said his administration remained committed to delivering quality healthcare to the people of the state.
He, however, urged the people of the state to take advantage of the free and laudable gesture by the state government, as there are chances that many who are blind could regain their sight.
The Governor says the Owerri Eye Centre is an arm of the Imo foundation which is set up basically to cater for the less privileged in the society especially those with critical ailments who do not have any means of surviving or dependents to cater for them.
He added that since its establishment by the state government, Imo Foundation had successfully carried out charity works in the area of healthcare delivery to over 1,000 imo citizens.
Top government functionaries, indigenes of the state as well as great number of blind persons gathered at the premises of the Imo foundation in Owerri for the official flag off of the free cataract surgery project and opening of the Owerri Eye Centre an initiative of the Okorocha led administration.
The Owerri Eye Centre is said to be a continuous process and is opened to everybody in the state even as services are rendered free anytime of the day.
With this development, as disclosed by the government hopefully in the next few years visually impaired people would have been drastically reduced to its barest minimal in the state.
